My Toy Goes to Work

I'm the dad to four terrific kids. When it comes to meal time, my wife and I spend the first minutes serving and cutting up food. Well, I made waffles this morning and wanted to shorten the amount of effort and time for this serve / cut process.

Behold, the Shun chef knife goes to town. Is it overkill (overcut?) to use a chef knife on waffles? NO! It is long and strong and perfect for the jump.

To also speed things up, I dumped a jar of peanut butter into a piping kit so I can pipe the yummy stuff onto the waffles before cutting. Who likes to spread peanut butter (or butter for the traditionalists).

Jerky Contraption

I followed Alton Brown's suggest to avoid heat when making jerky. The concern is that the heat will cook the meat, while you really want to dry it out. I set the fan under the dehydrator and kept a thermometer in the bottom tray. My jerky took nearly 8 hours to dry out.

Chick on a stick (Chicken Satay)

Building
Start by flattening a few chicken breasts.

Now build the marinade with these ingredients. Pretty interesting bunch of toys to put together.

Be careful telling people about the peanut butter. I had one person not want to talk about it after hearing there was peanut butter. I'm still not sure why it is such a big deal, but for some it is. Maybe they can't think of peanut butter being used in other ways then the PB&J sandwich.
